Who they are and what they do:
Milford Fire Department
The Milford Firefighters are a hardworking core of volunteers. We are all aware how important the firefighters are to our community. Along with fighting fires, they assist the EMS with car accidents and medical emergencies. The volunteers also take on the important task of educating the local children about fire safety giving demonstrations at the Milford Fire Station and in our schools. As a special treat, they give the kids in the community a thrill by participating in the town parades with their flashing lights and blaring sirens! The Milford community is an important source of funding for our fire station helping to purchase needed equipment and provide funds for continuing education. State budgetary cuts have affected the Milford Fire Station and our support would help them help us!
Milford Food Bank
The Food Bank is a service in Milford to help struggling families. Donations of canned food, boxed food, school supplies in the fall and toiletries are made by the community to keep the shelves stocked.
Milford Kiwanis Kids (K-Kids)
This is a new program at Milford Elementary. It is part of Kiwanis. K-Kids educates children on how to be leaders, organize service projects and better their community. What a great way to teach children to become giving and appreciative adults. The teacher facilitating this group is one of Milford’s best. She has unending enthusiasm and a huge heart for kids!
Milford Library
The Milford Library is not just a place to check out books, it is an information epicenter for our town. They provide dynamic children and adult activities that challenge us to grow and learn. They provide summer reading programs, ice cream socials, puppet shows, movie nights, preschool story hour, knitting club, and scrap booking club – just to name a few! The staff is always eager to help and takes a personal interest in each patron. Due to state budgetary cuts, the library is in great need of our aid. Recently, they have had to cut employee hours and program funding. Join us in supporting the library!
Makenna Van Laeken
Makenna was the daughter of Mike and Cheryl Van Laeken. After blessing this earth for 42 precious days, Makenna passed away. Makenna had Neonatal Hemochromatosis, a very rare liver disease. Mike and Cheryl are trying to start a foundation through Rileys Hospital to further research in Makenna’s name.
Milford United Methodist Preschool
This preschool program is a ministry of the Milford United Methodist Church. It is one of the finest preschool programs in the area. Their contribution to the children in the community is beyond measure. The program incorporates developmentally appropriate activities to educate. In other words, they learn through play! The teachers are endlessly creative and have a true passion for the children in their care.
New Beginnings Day Care
